Reds Under the Bed – a literary afternoon

Join us for a fascinating literary afternoon with Michael Komesaroff  who will speak about his new book: “Reds Under the Bed: ASIO and an Unusual Bunch of Suspects”

Michael, his wife Sandra and their children lived in Brisbane for a number of years in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He is an engineer and freelance journalist who has written on Australian Jewish history, and the experiences of his family, and has recently spoken at Limmud Oz.

In his new book, he examines the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation’s surveillance on people and organisations with left-wing affiliations. Many of them were Jewish, including members of his own family.

He will explain:

  • why so many Jews leaned left in the first half of last century
  • why ASIO took an unrelenting interest in them, and
  • why, in recent years, the political allegiance of Australian Jews has shifted to the right.
