Message from the President

NCJWA Brisbane Section started in 1927 after a friend of founder Dr Fanny Reading visited Brisbane.  Since then Brisbane Section has continued with the tradition set by Dr Reading.

Although we are a small section we do Community Service work and fund raise for local Jewish and non-Jewish causes. Our donations go to organisations such as the  National Breast Cancer Foundation,  Angel Flight  and Alzheimer’s Association.  We gave a part scholarship to a student at Sinai College and make a yearly donation to Gan-Gani Kindergarten.

As well as being involved in all National Projects we make a yearly donation to the MICHA Project – a school for Deaf Children in Israel.

Brisbane Year in Review 2018

It was very special for Brisbane to have Negba join us at our AGM in July.  Carolyn Goldsmith OAM has finally been able to hand over the reins, after 21 years at the helm, to Sheila Levine.  Brisbane will miss Carolyn’s leadership but we know that with her involvement at National level, we can continue to count on her support.

Carolyn and Mavis were delegates to the International Council of Jewish Women held in Canberra.  The conference was well run and enjoyed by our delegates and in the long run, we all benefit from their being in attendance.

A very enjoyable whisky night was presented to 40 attendees.  A variety of whiskys were paired with foods to work with their flavours and aromas.  Guests sniffed and quaffed their way through the whiskys with laughter and at the same time learned so much more about appreciating this spirit.

Another informative event was a tour of the Queensland Art Gallery by one of our members who is a trained guide at the gallery.  Lee presented both women in art and women as artists.  Who knew there was so much to learn about this topic?
